Hiring AI and ML engineers
Hire AI and machine learning engineers
MiiMate helps startups hire the AI and machine learning engineers who turn models into products: applied AI and LLM engineers, ML engineers and research-minded builders, from the first AI hire to a full team.
AI talent is some of the most in-demand in tech right now, and the best people are usually busy building. We look at the work people actually ship, in public code, open-source projects and their answers to other developers, so we can bring you engineers with real, recent experience in the problems you're solving.
Who we find
- Applied AI and LLM engineersWho build features on top of large language models: retrieval, agents, evaluation and guardrails.
- Machine learning engineersWho train, fine-tune and ship models into production.
- ML-minded backend engineersWho connect models to real products and data.
- AI engineering leadsWho can set direction for a small team.

Questions founders ask us
What's the difference between an applied AI engineer and an ML engineer?
An applied AI engineer builds product features on top of existing models, such as retrieval, agents and evaluation. An ML engineer trains, fine-tunes and deploys models. Many early teams need the first before the second, and we'll help you decide which fits your roadmap.
Should our first AI hire be senior?
Usually, yes. A first AI hire sets the patterns everyone else follows, so experience shipping AI features to real users matters more than research credentials.
How much does it cost?
Our fee is agreed up front in a short, plain-English agreement you accept online: a percentage of the new hire's first-year base salary or a flat fee per hire. On a contingency search you pay only when you hire someone we introduced. On a retained search, a fee is due to start the search, and the remaining terms are agreed up front. Get in touch and we'll talk through the search and the terms.
Does AI decide who we see?
No. Otto AI does the heavy searching and matching, and a recruiter on our team reviews every candidate and makes every decision about who we introduce to you.
Where do you recruit?
Across the major US tech hubs, including New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Austin and Chicago, and for remote teams anywhere in the US.
